"Two Ladies by the Seaside" 70" x 50"

Over 500 squares of 150 different floral fabrics were used to create this fabric mosaic. I used a painting
by Georges Seurat as inspiration for this wall hanging. Working with light values, that is, the light,
medium, dark values of the various fabrics, you achieve the visual effects of a brilliant blue sky, shimmering waters and flowers and grasses moving in the wind.

The figures are silhouette-cut and hand-appliqued; double borders frame the image of this modern example of applique arts. This fabric art wall quilt received a Third Place award at the annual show
of my local chapter, El Camino Quilters Guild in Oceanside, CA.

A large 70 x 52 wallhanging suitable for a lobby or spacious wall in a home. All fabrics are 100% cotton, and the art piece was handquilted with ties. A hanging sleeve is attached to the back with a handcrafted designer label.

"Spring Has Sprung" 68" x 64"

This art quilt was inspired by Monet's "Spring at Giverny 1900" and has tabs for displaying on a
decorative rod as a tapestry. The colors are lovely greens, yellows, fuchsias, blues, beiges and browns. Over 300 different fabrics were used to create the Impressionistic effects. The tree trunks are painted
with fabric paint and are permanent. I have noticed that as the light of day shifts in my fabric art gallery the colors seem to change in intensity and it is quite lovely to look at.

These kinds of artistic wall hangings really lend themselves to be viewed from far away when you really get the effect of the blending of the colors in the fabric squares. Ideally, it should be hanging on a large wall in a spacious home or in a large corporate lobby.

All my fabric art wall hangings come with a designer label on the back detailing the name of the quilt, my name, the date and place where it was made. I also include a Certificate of Authenticity with all pieces so that they can be valued for insurance purposes.

Here’s a quotation by Felix Feneon about the impressionist artist Georges Seurat and his art:

“Isolated on the canvas, these colours re-compose on the retina: what we have not, therefore, is a mingling of colours conceived in terms of pigment. It is a mingling of colours in terms of light. I need
hardly say that, where the same colours are involved, a mingling of pigments does not necessarily give
the same results as mingling of light-rays. We also know that the luminosity of an optical mingling is
always very much greater than the luminosity of a material mingling of pigment.”

Quotations from John Russell’s book “G.Seurat”, published by Thames & Hudson, London, copyright
1965, 1976 printing.

I hope you enjoy this new art form as much as I am enjoying creating each
unique fabric art wall hanging!
