Against a hand-painted background, I used many different and colorful batiks to create a strong, graphic design. The shapes were cut out intuitively and placed around the center image. The circle in the middle is also a very strong batik which I think of as many mystical dots in space. The challenge was really determining which batiks would work with each other as well as seem harmonious against the turquoise and periwinkle background. The starts floating all around are hand-embroidered in various red and purple threads. I used raw edge machine sewing on the batiks.
