This contemporary quilt was really fun to make. Two of my favorite designers, Kaffe Fassett and Laurel Burch, had really colorful fabrics and I decided to combine them in some fashion. The giraffes were prominent in Laurel's fabric whereas there were mainly colorful circles in similar colors in Kaffe's design. The third designer had many small animals against a black background which I felt kind of unified the theme. I pulled the black and the turquoise fabrics against a beige color. The interesting aspect of the overall design is that I used the traditional triangle shape (flying geese) in a much larger form all around the center part. I then fussy-cut giraffes and fused them over various triangles to create a really modern feel. I thought that it is very exciting visually because of the placement of the larger blocks in contrast to the many small triangles. The closer you look the more interesting it becomes.
